Bryan Murray
I get really excited about software, tools, and policies that
support local, renewable electric power.
My experience spans data science, ocean energy,
and distributed renewable power systems.
Co-inventor on a couple wave energy converter patents.
Co-author on a couple techno-economic papers.
I speak passable Spanish.
Fully authorized to work in the US and available for assignments worldwide.
Core Features
Smart colleauges have taught me a lot. Download my CV! for more details.
- Distributed Energy and Inverter-Based Resources
- Power electronics, controls, and SCADA
- Data analysis, mostly in Python
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Concept development, the fun part
- Techno-economics, the real part
Sample Work
Grid Topology Reconstruction
It's not always obvious how an electric distribution grid's physical layout corresponds to
its electrical connectivity. Often this data is inaccurate, unavailable, or both.
I wrote a bit of code to reconstruct an electrical connectivity map from GIS data of a medium-voltage
feeder from Southern California Edison's territory in Goleta, California.

and review
the code on Github.
Renewable Hosting Capacity Analysis
The grid can add lots more distributed energy resources (DERs) generally, but each node in the grid is
ultimately constrained by a unique set of operation conditions. SCE provides some data about these constraints,
and I made a tool to explore the profile of the nodes within a feeder of interest.
See the details on Github.
Monte Carlo Techno-Economic Forecasting
How fast must ocean energy improve to compete with wind power?
Read our paper on IEEE and see the code
on Github.
